Obituary for Dorothy Franklin Dorothy Mae Franklin was born on August 25, 1923 to Hartwell Walker and Katherine Rivers in Olar, South Carolina. She was one of many brothers and sisters of whom six proceeded her in death. Dorothy was baptized on July 24, 1930 at The Church of the First Born Written in Bamberg, South Carolina.

She matriculated through the South Carolina school system where she loved to play basketball. In 1941, Dorothy was united in Holy matrimony to Arnell Sinclair Franklin who proceeded her in death on February 24, 1979 and of that union they had a son, Arnell Wayne Franklin. Later in 1941 she migrated to New York City where she held various jobs throughout her life which included domestic work, the garment district and food services for Kings County Hospital and the New York City Board of Education.

Dorothy Franklin attended First Baptist of Brownsville Church until 1963 when she became a member of Mt. Sinai Cathedral Church of God in Christ. She served as the President of the Usher Board and a member of Senior Choir.

She was known for her sense of style a true fashionista, her famous sweet potato pie, and most importantly, her witty, kind and giving spirit. She loved children, cooking and feeding people. This brought her great joy.

On Saturday , November 24, 2018 she transitioned into eternal life. She leaves behind to cherish her memory – her son, Arnell Wayne Franklin Sr.; her niece whom she loved as a daughter Kenyetta Kim Shepherd; her grandchildren -Arnell Wayne Franklin Jr, Tinisha Kolet Franklin aka “grandma”, Abraham AJ Buce, Darnell Reeder, and Stephen Leroy Shepard ; great grandchildren – Maya Cheryle Gill, Aniyah Marie Franklin Rodriguez, twins Journey Akira & Destiny Assata Bruce ; a sister- Claudia Carter; and brother W.T.
