She was born to the late William and Antonine Gibes, September 15, 1923, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dorothy married the late Edmund H. Urban in 1946, who predeceased her in 2008.

They were lifelong partners in marriage and life for 62 glorious years. Dorothy is survived by four children: Timothy (Judy) of Wauwatosa, WI, Gregory (Terry) of Oconomowoc, WI, Nancy of Burnsville, MN, and Robert (Emily) of Spartanburg, SC. Furthermore, she is survived by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Dorothy was an accomplished musician, amazing cook, baker extraordinaire, brilliant business person, an impeccable accountant, wonderful seamstress, and a precise petit point artist. Dorothy was a member of Jesus Our Risen Savior Catholic Church, and was a Eucharistic minister for many years at a previous parish. But most of all, she was an incredible Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.

She didn’t wait for the world to happen, but always took the initiative and was one step ahead. Her proclamation, “If you have a just cause, you must pursue it! ” will linger long after these days have passed.

It was the strong spirit of someone like Dorothy who got us through the Great Depression and World War II. Thanks, Dorothy. She was one of the kindest people this life has ever known.

Goodbyes matter, but they are hard. We can imagine still being able to take a bite of one of her peanut butter cookies, fork imprints on top, as we bid a final ‘toodle-loo. ’ Her time in this world has come to an end.

Travel well. Grab Dad’s hand. It will be the one outstretched, waiting for you.

The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers, Woodruff Manor, and Spartanburg Regional Hospice Care for their professionalism and dedication. Special thanks to Michele Griffin and Loretta Wessells for their love, kindness, and care throughout Dorothy’s last years. Visitation will take place Monday, May 13th, 4-6PM at Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14th, 11:30AM at Dunbar Funeral Home. A private interment service will be held at Bush River Memorial Gardens in Columbia. A mass will be dedicated in her honor at her church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mobile Meals, P O Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
