Obituary for Dorothy Hawkins Dorothy Tew White Hawkins, 97, widow of Clyde W. “Flip” Hawkins, died at her home on Friday, October 5, 2018. She was a daughter of the late H. Bernard and Winnie Hames White. “Mama Dot” as she was affectionately called was a life long member of Glendale Methodist Church until it closed and was a current member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church.

She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School Class of 1939. She was retired, after twenty-one years, from the Spartanburg County Auditors’ Office. She was an avid sports fan, especially baseball.

Mrs. Hawkins was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was pre-deceased by her parents; a daughter, Tew E. Blackwood; a brother, W. Joseph “Billy” White; and a sister, Gladys White Rothrock. Surviving are a daughter, Luanne Hawkins Bridges (Jerry) of Spartanburg; son-in-law, John Blackwood (Betty) of Spartanburg; six grandchildren, Robby Blackwood (Sherry), Sandy B. Green (Shawn Long), Jeff Blackwood (Angel), Londyn B. Batchler (Dustin), Christi R. Atkins (Kevin), Patrice R. Robson (Brian); and fifteen great-grandchildren, Charity Noriega (Richard), Isaiah Blackwood, Christian Chavis, Aidan Long, Andrew Green, Ashley Loftis, Adanna Blackwood, Tyler Blackwood, Graham Blackwood, Eason Atkins, Banks Atkins, Millie Atkins, Morgan Robson, Mallory Robson, and Scarlett Batchler.

A graveside service will be held at 4 P.M. on Sunday, October 7, 2018 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd. , Spartanburg, SC 29307, with Rev. Larry Hyder and Rev.

Jones Brewer officiating. The family is at her home and will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; Agape Hospice Spartanburg, 516 E. Main St. Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to the charity of one’s choice.
