Jean Bastow, born Dorothy Jean Stock in San Francisco, CA on November 5, 1921, peacefully passed from this life on December 13, 2018 at her home in Bend, OR. Jean attended elementary school in San Francisco and Cotati and graduated from Petaluma High School with honors. Through her high school years she excelled in track and field, the homemaking arts as well as her secretarial skills classes.

After high school Jean married Burnett “B” Cannon and together they had three children. She loved living in the country and enjoyed the beauty of nature and growing a beautiful garden wherever she lived. After the loss of their first daughter, Sandra Jean at age nine and a divorce, Jean and her two children, Sharon “Sherry” Elaine and Calvin “Cal” Jerome, moved to Bakersfield, CA in 1956.

Jean worked for the District Attorney’s Office of Kern County and held highly skilled positions there and also in Orange County and finally Sonoma County until retiring in 1984 when she moved to Medford, OR. There she met and married Ric Bastow the following year. In 1961 she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she was called and served many positions.

Ric and Jean were called to serve in the London England Mission in the Family History Center. After their mission they settled in Salt Lake City, UT where they served another 12-month Church Service Mission in the Family History Department. She was always interested in genealogy and spent many years on her own family history as well as temple work.

After returning to Medford to live closer to her two children, Ric and Jean enjoyed retirement together until Ric’s passing in January 2011. A few years later Jean moved to Bend, OR to live near her son Cal and his wife Lisa. Jean was known for her elegance and grace and was loved by young and old alike.

In her last years she loved visits by her church family, especially the weekly delivery of the Sacrament by the Young Men of the Cascade Crest Ward, her son Cal (until his death in 2016) and Lisa, and her daughter Sherry Damico and her husband Frank from Grants Pass, OR. She was surrounded by these loved ones as well as her beloved caregivers, Tracy Rife and Stephanie Grant in her final days. She is survived by her daughter and son-in law, daughter-in-law Lisa Cannon, Ric’s daughter Marion Garcia (Gabe), grandchildren: Anita Sanchez (Richard), Monica Pozzi (Bill), Shelley Alves (Kirk), Danielle Gabbard (Sonny), Jason Long, and Ryan Cannon (Shannon), along with many great grand children and great-great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her mother Genevieve (Dawson) and her father Benjamin George Stock, brother Benjamin George Stock Jr., husband Ric Bastow, daughter Sandra Jean Cannon and son Calvin Jerome Cannon. Private burial will take place at the Logan City Cemetery, Logan, UT next to her sweetheart Ric. In lieu of flowers a donation could be made to The Humane Society of the US.
