Our beautiful Dorothy “Dottie” June Johnson Swensen, 69, of American Fork passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 1, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Dottie was born September 7, 1949 in American Fork, Utah to Vernon Ray and Dorothy June Peck Johnson. She married Lyman Day Swensen, May 10, 1968 in Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Dottie graduated from American Fork High School and Seminary in 1967. She also enjoyed participating as an Americanette where Lyman could get a good look at her beautiful legs as she marched in many parades. Dottie and Lyman made their home in Pleasant Grove where they raised their eight children.

She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. Dottie especially loved serving as an Ordinance Worker in both the Provo and Mt. Timpanogos Temples.

She and Lyman served a proselyting mission to the Atlanta Georgia North Mission from 2004-05. Dottie’s favorite memories were of family vacations at Lake Powell. She loved knee boarding, sunbathing, and touring all the wonders of Lake Powell.

Her greatest joy in life was her precious family. She is survived by her husband Lyman; eight children: Mindy (Kendall) Christensen, Cedar Hills; Chad (Lana) Swensen, Newport Beach, CA; Kalli (Jordan) Colton, Lehi; Jodilyn (Trevor) Colton, American Fork; Daymon (Shannon) Swensen, Elk Ridge; Michael (Natalie) Swensen, Cedar Hills; Kara (Jay) Barney, Bossier, LA; Erika (Kenny) Turner, Eagle Mountain; 38 grandchildren and 5 8/9 great grandchildren; siblings: Charles Johnson and Sharron (Tim) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 11:00 am in the American Fork Eighth Ward Chapel, 320 North 100 East, American Fork, Utah. Friends and family may attend a viewing Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30-10:45 am prior to funeral services. Interment will be in Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery, Bluffdale, Utah.
