levettfuneralhome.com Dorothy Jackson was the eldest of 3 daughters born to Mr. H. B. Johnson and Mrs. Annie Bell Johnson in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Life’s sunrise was on April 7, 1934 – and sunset was on September 4, 2018. Dorothy was affectionately known as “Dot,” “Aunt Dot,” “Action Jackson,” “Sis,” “Mama,” “Mom Jackson,” “Grandma,” and many more names too numerous to mention.

She was fiercely loyal and ever faithful, a veritable pillar and tenacious leader in the Macedonia Church of God in Christ. She was educated in the Wayne County School System in North Carolina. Also she resided in the states of Maryland and New Jersey prior to settling in New Haven, Connecticut during the late 1950s.

Dorothy Jackson was well known for being quite outspoken and always willing to freely share her views on a variety of issues. All of us experienced her highly developed sense of humor, along with a unique brand of mother-wit that could not be learned in any classroom. An invitation extended by the late Sister Nannie Haywood to attend a revival service at Macedonia was destined to forever alter the trajectory of Dorothy Jackson’s spiritual life.

After hearing God’s Word clearly proclaimed by Pastor Hester D. Bordeaux and receiving Christ as Savior and Lord, she began to witness boldly to family and friends. Although she was small in stature and size – 4’ 11’’ and 99 pounds – Mother Jackson was a giant and stalwart in the Kingdom of God. Every pastor would benefit greatly by having such a loyal and unselfish member, one with a willing heart to serve God and His people.

She encouraged church members to hear, honor and adhere to the principles of holiness set forth in the Bible. Observing her steadfastness to Christ and His church, Pastor Bordeaux recommended her to be licensed as an Evangelist-Missionary, which she accepted with sincerity, sobriety and humility. Dorothy’s home was an open door and haven for young people, preachers, evangelists and anyone who had a need.

She was a staunch advocate for all those who were suffering or in distress, and she burned the midnight oil to proactively assist their life journey. Also, she was an anointed prayer intercessor and altar worker, yet she was humble enough to labor tirelessly in the kitchen continually garnering funds for the building of Macedonia’s new church edifice. She took pride in ensuring the sanctuary was clean and had a fragrance that welcomed all congregants.

Dorothy Jackson was extremely generous in sharing her personal gifts and ministry res with the church she loved so well, serving in a variety of key capacities: as Sunday School Teacher, Y.P.W.W. Teacher, Church Treasurer, Trustee Board Member, Macedonia Choir President and Women’s Department President. Additionally, she was an active member of the Nurse’s Unit, Young Mother’s Club, Pastor’s Aide Committee, Building Fund Committee, Ways and Means Club and the Home and Foreign Mission.

During Mother Jackson’s residence in Georgia, she was a faithful member of the Triumph Church of God in Christ, under the capable leadership of Supt. L. A. McGee. Later in life, Mother Jackson relocated to Florida, then to Georgia, and then back to Connecticut where she was determined to spend the balance of her days because she longed for renewed fellowship with the church of her spiritual nativity, Macedonia, and with her first pastor, Bishop Hester D. Bordeaux, and with her daughter, Sharon.

Finally, experiencing failing health, she agreed to leave her beloved church family and be personally cared for in Georgia by her loving daughter, Rosemary, and her granddaughter, MyKeesha. Rosemary served very diligently and compassionately as her mother’s primary caregiver, ably assisted by MyKeesha. Because of their sacrificial and heroic efforts, the family matriarch was afforded the absolute best of care, lacking nothing.

Dorothy Jackson was predeceased by her parents, H. B. and Annie Johnson, her sister, Mary E. Priester, her brother-in-law, William Priester. , and nephews, Eric L. Johnson, Fredrick Serrano, and Clifford Paynter. Dorothy was blessed to birth one daughter Rosemary Saunders of Conyers, GA and expanded her family to include daughters, Sharon Bordeaux (Bishop H. D.) of New Haven, CT, Sherly Williams (Bishop George A.) of Philadelphia, PA, Carol Council of New Haven, CT and sons John Knox of New Haven, CT and Samuel Evans of Tucker, GA.

She leaves to mourn her passing, these children, and one sister: Nancy Paynter of Harrington, Delaware; five granddaughters: Dr. MyKeesha Fowler (Carlos) and Chyanne Mathis of Conyers, Georgia, Kristin Burton of Columbia, Maryland, Janine and Heather Bordeaux of New Haven, Connecticut; one grandson: Reverend Douglas Tyson of Bethesda, Maryland; three great-grandchildren: Kyra and Myles Fowler, and Ares Bordeaux; one first cousin: Mother Dora Lofton Pinkard and third cousin, Elder Sylvester Harris Jr. of New Haven, CT; three nieces: Sandra, Willette and Carrie Priester, three nephews: Lutalo Madzimoyo, B. Gregory, and Donell Priester; a Special Nephew, Kevin Miller Sr. of Meridan, CT and Godson Kevin Miller Jr.; Special son, Dwight McGee of Covington, GA; Great-Niece, Latoya Priester-Deloatch of Newport News, VA; and her namesake “Little Dot”, Dorothy Guinell Council, of New Haven, CT; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins; and, her beloved spiritual family at the Macedonia Church of God in Christ. Sleep on, Mother Dorothy Jackson, take your rest. Surely, we love you, but God loves you best.
