Dorothy May Grimes of Melbourne, FL, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, departed our lives peacefully at home on February 6, 2019 following a lengthy illness. Her devoted family was by her side. She was 84.

Born in Clinton, PA to Wayne and May Cool in the summer of 1934, Dorothy was raised in Imperial, PA. She attended and played piano in her church. Following graduation from West Allegheny High School, she worked as a telephone operator, where she met her future husband Ray.

(On the telephone! ) Soon after they began dating, Dorothy had a sudden and mysterious illness that left her nearly paralyzed, but because of her extreme resilience, she was able to overcome. She and Ray eventually married and then moved to Erwin, TN so that he could complete his college education.

In 1959, the couple moved to Eau Gallie, FL to embark on a new journey and begin their family together. Dorothy mostly worked as a homemaker, but also enjoyed sewing, crafts, country music, baking and worked part time in the Publix Bakery where she was loved for her ability to mentor some of the younger associates. She was kind, loved her animals which were always present in her home, and loved her children.

She was practical, generous, and worshipped God. She enjoyed watching her grandson play baseball, celebrating birthdays and Holidays and always made them ones to remember. Mostly, Dorothy just loved being surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was a committed and determined woman who conquered many hurdles in her life, not the least of which included battling and beating cancer, all while providing extraordinary care to her husband, who after 55 years together, preceded her in death in 2012. She is also preceded in death by her older brother Wayne Cool. She is survived by her three children, Scott, Wayne and Kimberly Grimes, and one grandson, Nicholas Grimes.

She is also survived by her sister Judy Labriola (John), sisters-in law Dorothy Jean Hamilton, Mary Ellen Grimes, and Lena Cool, brothers-in-law Bill Grimes (Mary) and Bob Grimes (Mae) and several special nieces. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
