Dorothy M. Stocker Godbold transitioned on Thursday May 16, 2019 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC. Born in Hopkins, SC on November 2, 1928, she was the first of eleven (11) children born of the late Frank and Louise Jones Stocker. Raised in the St. John Baptist Church in Hopkins, SC, she later married Hardin Jones Sr. and joined the St. Luke Baptist Church, Columbia, SC.

To this loving union, five children were born: Hardin Jr., Mary (Penny) Jones, Carole Yvonne Jones, Stanley B. Jones, and Pamela T. Jones. In 1970, after her marriage to Fred Godbold, she joined the Union Baptist Church, Columbia where she served faithfully until her death. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in the Class of 1946.

She was a homemaker, seamstress, and nursing assistant and later became the first black head cashier at B. Berrys Store on Assembly Street. She was honored as “The Citizen of the Week” for WOIC Radio and was active in her church and family activities. Mrs. Godbold was a mother, not only to her children but also to friends and extended family.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: five children: Hardin “Bobby” Jones, Jr. and his wife Dianne of Columbia, Mary “Penny” Jones and Stanley Jones also of Columbia, Pamela Mohammed and Carole Yvonne Jones both of Los Angeles, California; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three sisters: Deloris Davis and Gladys (Roy) Washington of Columbia, SC, and Mildred Myers of Gadsden, SC; three brothers: Jerry D. Stocker and Charles (Ann) Stocker all of Hopkins, SC, and Herbert (Bertha) Stocker of San Diego, California. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Dorothy M.
