OBITUARY Dorothy Van Pelt Kennedy July 17, 1925 – December 9, 2018 Dorothy was born in Amarillo, Texas on July 17, 1925 to John Jerry and Mattie Rush Van Pelt. Later, her family moved to Lubbock Texas where she attended Texas Tech University. Dorothy majored in Business Administration, launching her into a career in Washington DC as an administrative assistant to Congressman George Mahon.

In 1954, while home visiting her family, she met and six weeks later married James H Kennedy. Their marriage saw them living in Midland, Richardson, Houston, and League City, Texas, as wells as Biloxi Mississippi. Dorothy’s faith was the guiding light for her life.

She also loved bridge, golf, Bible Study, volunteering in several charitable organizations and taking care of her family. Her husband Jim preceded Dorothy in death in 2008. She is survived by her son John L Kennedy and wife Leslie; daughter Kathy Kennedy Miller and husband Charlie; grandchildren Hunter Kennedy, Erin Kennedy Tonissen, Blake Miller, and Sarah Kennedy Pryor.

She also leaves behind 4 great grandsons along with her brother Jerry Van Pelt, nieces Brenda and Shirley, and nephew Scott. Memorial services will be held Friday December 14, 2018 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church chapel, Dallas Texas. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made Webster Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, Webster, Texas or the charity of your choice.
