OBITUARY Douglas Brian Smith November 26, 1943 – January 16, 2019 Douglas Brian Smith, 75, of Apex, formerly of Cleveland, OH, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at WakeMed Cary Hospital. Doug was born on November 26, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY to the late William Henry Smith II and Katharine Louise Oakley Smith. He was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University where he received a BS in Chemistry.

Doug was employed with British Petroleum, retiring with over 35 years of service. He enjoyed traveling, golf, cooking and family. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Beverly Anderson and Diana Thomsen.

Doug is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynne Smith; daughters, Erin Hite (John), Meeghan Rhoads and Mara Craft (Sam); brother, William H. Smith III (Marcia); grandchildren, Avery Rhoads, Ryan Rhoads, Smith Craft, Lila Craft, Grayson Hite and Zenik Hite. There will be a Celebration of Life Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 2:00pm at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W Williams St., Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends immediately following the Celebration of Life Ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wake County Library Trust Fund, 4020 Carya Drive, Raleigh, NC 27610, Branch – Eva Perry Regional Library, libraryadministration@wakegov.com.
