Obituary for Douglas Gonsalves Douglas Gonsalves Mr. Douglas Gonsalves, age 59, of Hastings passed away Thursday, December 27th, 2018 at Pennock Hospital Douglas was born in Oakland, CA on August 27, 1959, the son of the late Charles and Mary (Hope) Gonsalves. He was raised in the San Leandro California and attended local schools. Doug spent a short time in California, but relocated to Michigan with this children.

On September 12, 1987 he married Mary Lou (Wierenga) Gonsalves. Together they made their home in Hastings where they continued to raise their family. Doug & Mary Lou have celebrated over 31 years of marriage.

Doug was a hard worker, and spent is professional career as a Lathe Operator at Flex Fab in Hastings where he worked faithfully for over 28 year before retiring in 2005. Doug had a true passion for serving the people in his life. Over the years he has utilized is talent as a tremendous cook to prepare meals at his church, as well as operate his own catering business for the past 40 years.

Doug loved his church and church family at Thonapple Valley Church and enjoyed giving his time and talent working in the children’s ministries and serving in the kitchen. Each summer Doug was in instrumental aspect to the success of the Hastings Summerfest, helping organize the children’s parade and the car show each year. As an active member of the Hastings community, Doug belonged to several local organizations including the Hastings Elks, and past president for the Hastings Car Club.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife Mary Lou, his daughter, Samantha Gonsalves, four sons Gerrin (Sonya) Gonsalves, Donald (Bobbi) Wood, Douglas Gonsalves Jr., Manny Gonsalves, his sister, Marilyn Dessemer, his brother, Steve Gonsalves and 12 grandchildren, He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Gonsalves A Celebration of Life Service will be held at The Thornapple Valley Church at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2019 with a time of fellowship and luncheon immediately following.
