Charles (Charlie) Prichard died Friday, December 14, 2018 in Lawton. He was born May 24, 1938, in Duncan, OK, to Harve Henry and Ella Iola Belle (Williams) Prichard. He attended Duncan High School.

He received an Associate’s degree from Cameron State Agricultural College; both a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Education from Central State University in Edmond, OK; and Doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Charles taught 9th grade English at John Marshall Junior-Senior High in Oklahoma City, then served as a guidance counselor at Star Spencer High School. While completing his doctoral work, he was the head resident of Cordell Hall dormitory at OSU, where he lived with his wife and children.

After completing his doctorate, he began teaching as an assistant professor in the Education and Psychology Department at Cameron, later becoming a full professor, then being named professor emeritus. Dr. Prichard was a member and officer of Phi Delta Kappa, a national educators’ group. At Cameron he served for several years as faculty advisor to the Baptist Student Union and the Future Teachers Association.

He was appointed to design the Graduate Program for Master’s degrees at Cameron. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Education Association. Charlie was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught adult Sunday School classes.

He also served as the Training Union Director and began a class to encourage the reading and study of great books. He was ordained as a deacon of the church in 1975 and enjoyed singing in the Adult Choir for many years. Charles was an active member of the Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society and the Oklahoma Historical Society.

He also was a volunteer researcher for The Museum of the Great Plains. As an undergraduate at Central State, Charles met his love, Doris Girty, and they married their senior year. Doris survives him.

His children and grandchildren brought great joy to his life. Son Justin Marc, his wife Debbie; daughter Amy Beth, her husband Timothy Tutt, and their children Benjamin Prichard Tutt and Mary-Austin Tutt, also survive him. Gifts in Charles’ memory may be made to Cameron University Foundation or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
