Dr. Hal Benton Vorse was born August 22, 1942, at Ft. Riley, KS, Army Hospital to Harvey and June Vorse and died October 2, 2018, at his home in Oklahoma City. He graduated from John Marshall H.S. in Oklahoma City in 1960 and from SWOSU in Weatherford in 1964.

He received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1968 and completed his residency in Pediatrics at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. After spending three years in the US Army in Heidelberg, Germany, he joined the Oklahoma City Clinic in 1974, where he practiced Pediatrics until his health forced him to retire in 1996. In 1997, he began a second career in Addiction Medicine at The Referral Center and A Chance To Change Foundation.

He left TRC in 2009 and practiced with Medical Therapy Associates, Specialized Outpatient Services and Red Rock Behavioral Services. Hal was on the faculty of the OU School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics from 1975-1997 and in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine from 2007 to present. In 1986, he became a friend of Bill W. by the grace of God and the help of countless friends in the 12 step program in Oklahoma and around the world.

He was particularly grateful to the men who were willing to share their recovery with him through sponsorship. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Ces, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage; and his daughters, Shayna Price and husband Kevin and Christy Delano and husband Craig. He was so proud to be grandfather to Charlie Iona and Cy Benton Delano.

His in-laws, Charles and Barbara Harris, accepted him into their family and loved him and his family as much as their own. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Claudia Vorse, and niece, Lindsey Vorse, of Salem, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Sylvia Vorse and his brothers, Donn and Clayton.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to A Chance To Change Foundation, Specialized Outpatient Services or a charity of your choice. If you wish to send a flower, please send them to Children’s Hospital in Dr. Vorse’s memory. The family will host a reception to celebrate Dr. Vorse’s life at The Greens Country Club, 13100 Green Valley Drive, on Friday, October 19 from 2 – 4 pm.
