OBITUARY Dr. Harry Stanley McAbee July 19, 1925 – November 1, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Dr. Harry Stanley McAbee, 93, of Orlando, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2018 in the comfort of his own home. He was born July 19, 1925 in Piedmont, Alabama to Thomas McAbee and Pauline Young. He enlisted in the Marines at the age of 17 and served his country in World War II.
Following his service, he attended Auburn University and studied Veterinary Medicine. While attending Auburn, he met his future wife, Jacquelyn Yon, and the rest is history. The two married and their journey led them to Orlando where Harry opened McAbee Veterinary Hospital and practiced his love for animals for nearly 40 years.
Harry’s involvement in the community is one to be noted. He was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Orange County East-Winter Park and recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a founding member of the Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida.
One thing that defined Harry was his strong faith in God; he was a member of the Aloma United Methodist Church for 50 years. He enjoyed teaching the Alpha Program. He, along with several friends, brought the Alpha Program to the Salvation Army for over seven years.
This small group was instrumental in turning around the lives of several men who had lost all hope. He also enjoyed playing golf, tennis, tending to his grapevines, watching his Auburn Tigers play- War Eagle, studying the Bible, and spending time with his growing family. Harry had a personality like no other.
There was no such thing as a stranger. He always greeted others with a gleaming smile and will be remembered for his strong faith in God, his radiating kindness, compassion, and the legacy he has left behind. Harry is preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Jacquelyn McAbee, his parents, Thomas and Pauline, his brother, Thomas McAbee, his daughter, Lee Ann McAbee, and his daughter-in-law, Terri McAbee, He is survived by his 5 children; Lynn Bryant, Jeff McAbee, Cindy McAbee, Scott McAbee, and Shannon Manning; his 10 grandchildren; and his 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Baldwin-Fairchild Goldenrod on Friday, November 9. Funeral services for Harry will be at Aloma United Methodist Church in Winter Park on Saturday, November 10 at 11:00am. Harry will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando, Florida.
