OBITUARY Dr. J. Frank Alexander October 29, 1919 – July 18, 2018 Frank Alexander was born on October 29, 1919, in Macon, GA and passed away on July 18, 2018. Frank was predeceased by his parents, John and Myrtle Alexander, and his beloved youngest son, Richard Scott Alexander. Close family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Grayson Davis Alexander; Ellen Alexander Michael and husband Max; Jean Alexander Cox and husband Danny; John Alexander; and David Alexander and wife Minette.

Eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren called Frank “Papa”. Frank’s life centered on his family both at home and within the churches he faithfully served. In his book published in 2000, “Behind the Scenes”, he dedicated his memoirs to “the members of the churches I have had the honor and pleasure of serving”.

His journey of service called him from Oak Grove Presbyterian in Montgomery, AL; First Presbyterian in Cheraw, S.C.; First Presbyterian in Milledgeville, GA; First (Scots) Presbyterian in Charleston, S.C.; First Presbyterian in Shreveport, LA; and he retired in 1986 from South Highland Presbyterian in Birmingham. Along the way, his sermon, “One Nation, Under God”, attracted wide-spread national attention in 1962 and was printed in the Congressional Record of the 87th Congress. Having graduated from Mercer University in Atlanta, Columbia Seminary in Decatur, GA, and receiving his Doctorate of Theology from the University of Edinburg, Scotland, Frank coupled his education with a sense of wisdom, patience, hope, peace, and endless prayer to serve the needs of his churches and each individual within his congregations.

Memorial services for Dr. J. Frank Alexander will be held 1:00 pm at South Highland Presbyterian Church, in the chapel, on Saturday, July 21, 2018. The family will receive friends after the service. He deeply and sincerely loved and nurtured all the human souls with whom he came into contact.

He will be missed tremendously.
