Dr. Sarita Punje, 70, passed away on June 10th 2018. She was born in a small rural town of Pandhurna, Madhya Pradesh, India in 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Babanrao Punje on June 12th 2016.

She is survived by her son Abhijit Punje, daughter-in-law Abhilasha Punje, daughters Mrs. Sangita Suryavanshi and Mrs. Pradhanya Chavhan, Son-in-law Dr. Anant Chavhan and beloved grandkids Advika, Ojas, Shubham, Shivam and Anushka. Since her early school days, Dr. Sarita Punje was a stellar student; always curious and eager to learn, experiment and explore new experiences in life. Above all, she truly enjoyed sharing those experiences with others.

She utilized her teaching profession, her oratory skills and wrote numerous articles and passages for magazines and newspapers to reach out to the community at large. She published several travelogues on her stay in USA and published literary books on the works of revered social worker, Saint Tukdoji Maharaj. But above all, her friends know her best for her generosity and kindness and someone who they can count on no matter the situation.

Dr. Sarita Punje would often go above and beyond in her assistance to needy or in her efforts to resolve issues, often at the personal sacrifice. She lived her life as an astute vegetarian and true believer in Hindu faith. Yet, she was very flexible in accepting and often practicing diverse cultures and practices – which made her everybody’s favorite “Punje Kaku”.

Dr. Sarita Punje often said, “Companionship infuses love and empathy in relationships”. She believed, and on many occasions demonstrated, that a mountain can indeed be moved if you persist to demonstrate empathy for it. She lived her life with high dignity and respect and held lives of people around her at the same bar for herself.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask the memorial donation be made to Johns Hopkins Howard county general hospital at howardhospitalfoundation.
