Obituary for Dr. Vergil Gamewell Wright Dr. Vergil Gamewell Wright, age 95, departed this life on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Dr. Vergil Gamewell Wright, was the son of the late Reverend A. W. Wright, a United Methodist minister and Mrs. M.W. Wright, a public school teacher. His siblings included three brothers and one sister, Lydia Wright Glover, who served as the first National President of Coulter Memorial Academy Alumni Association.

Wright’s institution of learning included Coulter Academy for high school, an A.B. from Benedict College, M.D., Gammon Theological Seminary, M.A., New York University. Diploma, The Sorbonne University of Paris; humanities, University of Wisconsin; Russia, University of Pennsylvania Doctoral Studies, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Honorary Doctorate, King’s College. Among his publications are “Guy de Maupassant’s Pierre et Jean”, Varia, Vol.

1, No 5; “From London to Wesley Chapel”. , Vol. 135 No 17; “The Professor and the Moral Imperative”, Central Christian Advocate, Vol.

137 No 16, “Telstar and New Educational Vistas”, N.C. teacher record, Vol. ii, No 8, and “Corporal Punishment in the School System“, CCU Law Journal. Wright served in several capacities, pastor, North Orangeburg Methodist Church, Wesley Chapel N.Y.C., Assistant Pastor, director of religious education and youth program, St. Marks U.M. Church, N.Y.C., counselor, Minisink Townhouse, N.Y.C., as one of the charter members of CMA, Wright served as chairman of the membership committee parliamentarian.

On the college level, Dr. Wright has drama, humanities, french, piano and organ. Dr. Wright is a retiree from the United Methodist Church as well as North Carolina Central University. As a retiree, he was actually inspired in church, school, and community programs.
