Emma Louise Kofoed Shaw (Louise) was born June 18, 1929, and died August 18, 2018, with family members at her side, after an unexpected stroke and subsequent brain hemorrhage. All five children were able to gather to spend time surrounding her during the three days in the hospital. Louise’s husband, Robert (Bob) Shaw, had died recently before her, on May 29, only a few weeks before their 70th wedding anniversary.

Born in Banida (Preston area) Idaho, Louise grew up in Lava Hot Springs. Her mother,… Read More » Isabel Kidd Kofoed, had been widowed in December, 1930 (Lial Leroy Kofoed), and raised three small children on her own through the Depression. At the end of a year of college, Louise married Bob Shaw on June 20, 1948, and the two raised their five children in Pocatello.

When all five children were in school, Louise returned to complete her BA degree at Idaho State University in history education. After a difficult first year of teaching, she decided instead to take over the bookkeeping role at Shaw Auto Parts, the family business. She worked there until retirement, after which she and Bob were able to enjoy the next decades of activity side by side: serving in many roles in their church; singing in the church choir and Camerata Singers; taking New Knowledge Adventure courses; and traveling to nearly every state as well as Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.

Throughout her life, Louise was an avid reader and keenly interested in the world around her. The Shaw home was a center of family visits and hospitality to friends. Louise is survived by her sister Carrol Lauritzen; her children Larry, Mary Ellen, Michael, Robert, and Barbara; and grandchildren Stein, Ryan, Eric, Kristen, Timothy, May, Kyle, and Aubrey.

Services will be held 2:00, Saturday, September 22, at the First Presbyterian Church, Seventh and Lewis. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 4488, Pocatello, ID 83205.
