Earl Arthur (Bud) Ames, age 95, of Oakwood Heights, formerly of Venus, passed away November 6, 2018. Born at West Hickory, Forest County, July 29th 1923, he was the only son of the late Arthur and Minnie (Wright) Ames. After graduating from Oil City High School in 1942, Bud joined the Navy during WWII and was assigned to the Amphibious Division where he served through 5 Pacific Island invasions on the Tank Landing Ship, USS LST 246.

He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 star, the American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. He married Rhea Jean (Haas) Ames in 1946, they had five children. Bud worked with his father in the oil business after the war while starting the band, “Bud Ames and his Allegheny Mountain Boys”.

Bud’s band gained regional notoriety and a large following through the late 40’s and 50’s. He and his father also started A.B. & E.A. Ames Trucking in 1959, before Bud, his wife, and his son started Grandview Estates in 1973. Bud was a truly happy personality and a born entertainer.

He played his trombone and sang for the residents of Oakwood Heights until just before his passing. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra and her husband Ed Cyrus, four sons, Larry and his wife, Yvonne, Ronald and his wife Catherine, David and his wife Suzanne, and Daniel and his wife, Susan, seventeen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws, Freeda (Haas) Alexander, Violet (Carson) Haas, Angela Prather, brother-in-laws, Leon Haas, Eugene Rhoades, a special niece, Linda Lynn, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Rhea Jean, his parents, two sisters, Jean (Ames) Prather and Faye (Ames) Rhodes, brother-in-laws, Bruce Prather, Russell Haas, Myron Haas, Robert Alexander, and his mother and father in law.

Friends will be received at Reinsel Funeral Home from 11 A.M. until 2P.M. Saturday Funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Shaw Farm Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the V.E.T.S.
