Obituary for Earl Dean Riffe It is with great sadness that the family of Earl Riffe announces his peaceful journey home on Friday, August 31, 2018, after 62 years on this earth. He was born in Dayton, Ohio and attended high school in Jackson, Tennessee where he met his wife Rhonda. They were married 41 years.

Earl is a follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted and loving husband who deeply loved and cared for his growing family. He is the father of Stuart Riffe, married to Jennifer, Morgan Hoover, married to Damien, and Shellie Hoak married to Matt. He has six grandchildren whom he adores, Everleigh and Amelia Riffe, Philip and Calia Hoover, and Emma and Melody Hoak.

They adore him as well – his ability to make his grandkids smile is irreplaceable. He also has many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sisters Leita Faulkner, Debbie Riffe and Beth Riffe.

He is predeceased by his parents Vernon and Ruby Riffe and his sister Tina Lakey. When we think of Earl, we can only say that he lived life large with a quick wit that couldn’t be contained. He took great joy in bringing laughter to those he was with, and while his wit was unconstrained, neither was his compassion or tender heart.

His carefree sprit, honesty, and love of life allowed us all to relax and just be ourselves. Earl was well read and never tired of learning new things. Politics, Miami Hurricanes football, and religion were all subjects he loved to talk about.

He was fully engaged with the world around him with deep convictions of truth and right and wrong. No matter a person’s views on life, he was quick to open his home to bring community and friends together. It was a treat to be able to eat at his table.

To say “his children loved him,” doesn’t fully explain how much his family cherished him. He was their counselor, life advisor, handyman consultant, and so much more. If someone viewed his phone history, it would be overwhelmingly full of phone calls from his kids, who loved to call daily just to hear his voice and soak up the loving wisdom he was always so happy to share.
