Earl Leslie Syth (age 89), passed away peacefully at home on the evening of Sunday, July 29th, 2018. He was born March 5th, 1929 in Greenwood, WI to Vernon Lee Syth and Alma Lavina (Roum) Syth. He was married in 1952 to Patricia Leola Orr of Wewoka, OK.

Earl graduated from Greenwood, WI, High School and attended Oklahoma City University. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean era, and served several years in both the Air Force Reserve and Oklahoma Air National Guard. After discharge… Read More » from the Air Force in 1952, he was employed at Tinker AFB from where he retired in 1986 as a Management Analyst in the Directorate of Maintenance.

He later worked five years as a courier for the First National Bank of Midwest City. A Spencer resident since 1956, he was a member of Spencer United Methodist Church since 1958 where he served in nearly every elective capacity, as well as both an adult and children’s Sunday School Teacher. As a member of the Spencer Senior Citizens Board, he participated in the planning and building of the Spencer Senior Citizens Center, and served as President of that board for eight years.

He also served four years on the Spencer City Council, including two years as Mayor. Since his retirement, he faithfully delivered mobile meals to area shut-ins for many years. He was a life member of the Midwest City/Del City Chapter 946 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), and a member of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce and Spencer Historical Society.

Earl is survived by his three children: son, David L. Syth of Oklahoma City, daughter, Kathryn L. Rasch and husband Keith of Harrah, and daughter, Lisa A. West of Shawnee; grandchildren, Dale Syth, Michelle Syth (spouse Jamie), Jeremy Syth, Leslie Pierson, Christina Prado, Tierney Rasch, Mandy Baker (spouse Tommy), Erin Gambrel (spouse Sean), Andrew Bybee, and Easton West; great grandchildren, Alex Syth, Loy Taylor, Twyla Slavin, Rylee Pierson, Caleb Pierson, Devon Jack, Ashlyn Jack, Alex Baker, Faith Baker, Harper Gambrel, Madeline Kahl, and Freya Gambrel, as well as many other extended family members. He has two great great grandchildren, Ivy Slavin and Raylynn French. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia; brothers, Dale, Richard, Kenny, and infant brother; son, Danny; and great grandson, Rayden.

Spencer United Methodist Church is designated for memorials.
