Earl Ralston, Jr. December 31, 1951 – April 30, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Earl Ralston Jr., age 67, a resident of Taholah died on April 30, 2019 at his home in Taholah. Junior, was born on December 31, 1951 to Earl Ralston Sr., and Shirley Mae (Charley) Ralston. He was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1970 where he was a standout football player, playing under Bobcat coaches, Dewey Van Dinter, Al Eklund and Dick Dixon.

He later attended and played football for Grays Harbor College. He also attended Haskell Indian Nations College in Lawrence, Kansas. He played basketball for the Harbor Thunderbirds, an all-Indian team traveling to numerous tournaments as far as Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was an enrolled member of the Quinault Indian Nation. Earl graduated from the Police Academy and began working as a Re River Patrol Officer for the Quinault Indian Nation, patrolling his beloved Quinault River. He fished on the Quinault and was a successful river guide for over 30 years.

Many of his elite clients would become life-long friends, staying in touch and always talking about special times shared on the river he loved so much. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing. He was an excellent cook and made his grandfather’s chili often to share with family.

His other passions in life were sports and pool. During the glory days of the “Super Sonic” era he was known to load up the car up and head to the coliseum attending numerous games. In 2005, he became a season ticket holder of his beloved Seahawks, a faithful fan through and through.

Pool was a huge part of his life. He loved the game and when he wasn’t playing he was watching the pros play on TV. But mostly, Earl Jr. was a family man.

His grandchildren were his life and he had special relationships with each one of them. They will all miss their grandpa dearly. Surviving relatives include daughters Mariah Ralston and Rebecca Rowell of Taholah; son Rick Rowell of Hoquiam; his father Earl Ralston Sr. of Taholah; grandchildren, Jennifer Ralston of Taholah; Nicole Hidalgo of Puyallup; Robbie and Ashley Hidalgo of Taholah; Great-grandchildren Liyah and Gabriel Priamos of Taholah; Siblings, Cheri Ralston of Taholah, Charles Ralston of Aberdeen; Lawrence Ralston, Mary Ralston, Cindy Ralston, Jessica Ralston and Elfrieda Waugh all of Taholah; and numerous nieces & nephews.

His mother Shirley died in 2013 and a son Rob Rowell died in 2002. The family will meet at the mouth of the Quinault River to scatter his ashes on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 3:00 pm. A dinner for family and friends will follow at the Taholah Community Center.
