Earl William Seugling Jr., 85, of Avondale Estates, died December 27, 2018 at his home. He was born January 6, 1933 in Little Falls, NJ to the late Laura and Earl Seugling Sr., and grew up in Little Falls, NJ. Earl graduated from Passaic Valley High School.

He attended Rutgers University and Ohio State University obtaining bachelors and masters degrees in Pharmacy and later obtaining his PhD in Pharmaceutics. After completing his PhD at Ohio State, Earl moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Earl met his future wife, Carol Mazzulo, who was working as his secretary at Strong Cob Arner.

Earl and Carol married in 1966, and later had a son while living in Cleveland. In 1969, Earl and Carol moved to Holmdel, NJ where Earl worked as the head of research and development at Block Drug Company, and their second son and daughter were born. He often joked that when he married Carol, he traded in his Porsche for 3 kids and a Volkswagen.

In 1978, Earl and family moved to Palm Coast, Florida, working first as a consultant in the Pharmaceutical industry, and then later as a sales and technical representative for Alpine Aromatics. Earl went in to semi-retirement in 1997. He continued to work as a consultant and sales representative until fully retiring in 2004.

Even in retirement, Earl was not very good at sitting still. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening, and spending time at the beach (and just outdoors in general). He also enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family.

In 2015, Earl moved to Avondale Estates in the Atlanta area, to live with his son Earl III and to be near his second son, Eric. In Atlanta, Earl enjoyed having cocktails and a good dinner. He also enjoyed visiting the High Museum and Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

Earl was very outgoing and enjoyed a good cocktail, good jokes and conversation, and often a good argument for anyone willing to engage him. He often exclaimed “No one has more fun that I do! ” He was making his family and friends laugh even in his final days.

He had an engineer’s mind and enjoyed building and creating things. He brought his pharmacist’s mentality to mixing drinks and cooking food. He had a life long love of Jazz music (both listening and playing his coronet) and had enjoyed seeing many jazz greats growing up near Manhattan in the 1950’s.

Earl was proceeded in death by his wife, Carol (2005) and his brother Richard Seugling (2018). Earl is survived by his 3 children: Earl Seugling III, Avondale Estates, GA, Eric Seugling, Atlanta, GA, Christina and husband Mark Slabaugh, Monument, CO; 4 grandchildren: Alex, Elyse, Megan, and Mia; 2 siblings: Sharon Hendricks, Queensbury, NY, and Arthur and wife Barbara Seugling of Flagler Beach, FL; sister-in-law Patricia Mazzulo, Chicago, IL; and several nephews and nieces. Earl has been cremated.

The family is grateful for the condolences, and asks that any memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
