OBITUARY Eddie Blackburn Glass Jr. December 13, 1928 – August 3, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Eddie Blackburn Glass, Jr., was born in Flat, Texas on December 13, 1928. He entered the gates of heaven on August 3, 2018. He was 89 years old.

During his early childhood, he and his family lived in a small community which is now part of North Fort Hood. His family were hard working farmers. He lived during the depression era, and the memories of this harsh time stayed etched in his mind forever.

He graduated from Flat High School. He went to college at Temple Community College. His family did not have enough money for a car, so he had to hitchhike back and forth to school.

Mr. Glass transferred to Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College. He had many funny stories to tell about his time there. He always said, ‘he did not let the books get in the way of his education’.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in January, 1950. While he was a student there, he met Mary Lee Johnson. On that day she went home and told her mother that that she had just met the man she would marry.

They married in June of 1951. After graduation, Mr. Glass was the Athletic Director and teacher for one year at the high school in Fairy, Texas. Eddie and Mary Lee Glass moved to Sabine Pass in 1951.

Mr. Glass was hired to be a coach and teacher. One day his sister Laverne arrived with a personal invitation from Uncle Sam. After basic training, he was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.

He was assigned to Tripler Army Hospital. He and his wife loved their time in Hawaii. Eddie Glass was honorably discharged from the military in August of 1953.

He taught High School in Flat Texas for one year. In 1954 he began his career with the Copperas Cove Independent School District. He earned his Master’s of Education in 1956 from Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College.

During his career with CCISD, he was a teacher, coach, bus driver, Principal, and the Assistant Superintendent of Business. During the mid 1950’s, the coaches not only coached, they lined the fields, took tickets, washed uniforms, and cut the grass. Eddie Glass always remembered these times fondly.

While he was the Assistant Superintendent of Business, he took many trips to Washington DC to help secure Federal Impact Aid for CCISD. He retired from CCISD in 1990. He continued to work for the needs of the teachers and students of Copperas Cove by serving on the School Board.

Mr. Glass was a Mason for 67 years. He was a member of the Maples Lodge #791 in Flat, Texas. Eddie and Mary Lee Glass have three children.

Joe Eddie, Teresa Ann, and John Robert. He is survived by his daughter Teresa Ingram of Copperas Cove, his son John Robert and Lara Glass of Jarrell, and his daughter- in- law Brenda Glass of Arlington. Mr. Glass is also survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

They are: Christopher Glass, Jeremy Glass (Leslie), and Brandon Glass (Nina) of Arlington, Cole Ingram (Laura) of Copperas Cove, and Chelsea Glass and Cody Glass of Jarrell. The two great grandchildren are Elliette Glass and Jameson Glass of Arlington. Also left to cherish his memories are his nephews: Mike Campbell (Rhonda) of Flat, James Dilling of Cedar Park, and Keith Dilling of Dallas.

Eddie Glass was preceded in death by his former spouse Mary Lee Glass and their son Joe Eddie Glass, his parents Eddie and Elizabeth Glass, and his two sisters, Vida Tippit and Laverne Campbell. Mr. Glass was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather. Although he was an educator for many years, he was always a farmer at heart.
