Obituary for Edgar Spaulding Jr. Ed as he was known by all his friends and family was born on January 7th, 1935 in Danielson, Connecticut. He passed away Monday, July 18th, 2018 while under hospice care at home in San Pedro, California. Shortly after enlisting in the Army in 1955, Ed met his then French wife Colette while serving in Captieux, France.

Over the years they traveled around much of Europe and lived across the US in places like Alaska, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and California. Upon retirement from the US Army, Ed spent 25 years in Dayton where he worked at Dorothy Lane Markets as a baker and got the unofficial title of the “Killer Brownie King”. Ed’s favorite pastimes included fishing, watching sports, listening to music and doing crossword puzzles every day.

He had fond memories of France and Alaska which he frequently recounted. In watching sports, he loved the Steelers in football, Nadal in tennis and lots of golfers. The day before he passed he was able to see France win the World Cup which brought him a smile.

Ed spent the last five years of his life enjoying the seaside in San Pedro California with his son Eddie, daughter-in-law Marcia and wife Colette for 2 years prior to her passing. His distinct laugh and sense of humor will never be forgotten. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Colette in 2015 after 56 years of marriage and his adopted daughter, Helene Albright in 2001.

He is survived his son, Edgar III and his wife, Marcia; two grandchildren, Kevin (Julia) Albright and Leah Spaulding, other relatives and many close friends. Cremation will be performed locally in California at: Green Hills Mortuary and Memorial Chapel 27501 So. Western Ave.
