COMPTON, Mrs. Edith M. Climax, MI Died Monday morning February 11, 2019. Edith “Maw Maw” was born May 4, 1924 in Traverse City, Michigan the daughter of Lester and Mable (Olman) Arnold. She graduated from Traverse City Central in 1942.

Edith married the love of her life Willie L. Compton on December 11, 1945 in Pikeville, Ky. She was a Climax area resident since 1959 and a member of the Climax United Methodist Church. Edith was also a life member of the Order of Eastern Star Royal Maple Leaf Chapter #291 and later Bedford #471.

She was an honored member of Grand Chapter of Michigan O.E.S.; Grand Representative of Pennsylvania in Michigan; and the Grand Committee Member of Grand Chapter O.E.S. Membership Renewal Committee. Edith bowled in a Monday League at Nottkes for over 30 years. She had a passion for dancing and went a couple times a week.

She was also an avid Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings fan. “Maw Maw” was always on the 50-yard line at C-S football games and attended numerous other sporting events over the years. She babysat for Mother’s Club for 23 years and was a constant at her grandchildren’s school events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie L. Compton; a son-in-law, James “Jim” Case; and 3 brothers, Pudge, Junior, and George Arnold. Edith is survived by 2 daughters, Diane (Dan) Benoit and Sherry (Ron) Delaney all of Climax; 4 grandchildren Danielle (Terri) Raymond, Drew (Melissa) Benoit, Jamie (Mike) Morrison, and Lindsey (Mike) Ambroso; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Ivan (Agnes) Arnold of Riverview, FL; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Riddle of Pikeville, KY; nieces, Linda, Sharon, and Nancy whom she and Willie helped raise; and several other nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1 o’clock Saturday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple St. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday at the chapel.
