Edith May Hamilton, 93, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, February 12, 2019. She was born April 22, 1925 in Seattle, Washington to William and Neva Yearian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Hamilton; brother, William Yearian; two sisters, Melva Kirkbride of Olympia, Washington and Loah Hendricks, of Renton, Washington.

Edith attended high school in Seattle, played the violin and loved to dance. She met and fell in love with Dorsey Hamilton during the beginning of World War II. She married him after a short courtship and began her life as a military wife.

In the course of the next 71 years, she traveled all over the western and middle United States while raising five children. Edith and Dorsey finally settled in Jacksonville, Arkansas in 1960. She went to the Methodist Church on Main Street and helped them start the Church Library with the old decimal system.

Edith also helped open the first Waffle House in Jacksonville on Marshall Road. She was an awesome mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her children, William Dorsey Hamilton of Arizona, Reginald Hamilton of Sherwood, Arkansas, Lawrence Hamilton of Manhattan, Kansas, Tina Newman and Steve of Mt. Vernon, Tara Estes and her husband, David of Jacksonville, Arkansas and Scooter Faulkner of Irving, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be Saturday February 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home.
