Edna Fern Wiese, age 92, of Holstein, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society of Holstein. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church of Holstein with the Rev. Doresa K Collogan officiating.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein. Burial will be at the Holstein Cemetery of Holstein. Edna Fern (Endrulat) Wiese entered into eternal heavenly rest at the Good Samaritan Society on December 22, 2018 at the age of 92.

She was born February 14, 1926 to Henry and Anna (Kastner) Endrulat on the family farm 2 1/2 miles southwest of Holstein, IA. She attended Battle #1 country school and graduated from Holstein High School with the class of 1943. On September 23, 1943, at the age of 17, she married Roger Henry Wiese, the boy from across the section who always said, “I met your mom when she was 10 days old”.

It was wartime, so sugar ration stamps were saved to make a wedding cake and tires from a hayrack were put on the car for a one-day honeymoon trip to Sioux City. Her father was late to his only daughter/child’s wedding because he was building a barn! The first two years of married life were spent living with Roger’s parents on the Wiese family farm, south of Holstein.

On this farm Roger and Edna Fern would live their entire lives and raise their family of five children: Lester, Valgene, Merritt, Rozann and Mary Ellen. Edna Fern was active in the United Methodist Church serving as UMW president for many years and as chairman of the planning committee for the Annual Turkey Supper even longer. She was Associate Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls and she and Roger were active members of Eastern Star.

She enjoyed sewing, even in the nursing home she could be found at her sewing machine up until the last couple of months. Each grandchild has been the recipient of a quilt made especially for them by Grandma. What she was best known for was her homemade bread and her decorated cakes.

She had a bakery license for over 50 years. She taught herself to decorate cakes after seeing a demonstration in the JC Penney window in Sioux City. She was an excellent cook and it never flustered her if an unexpected guest would show up “Just water down the soup!

” No one ever left her table hungry. Giving food was her love language; even in the nursing home she always had candy bars for anyone who stopped in. How many times we’ve heard her say, “What can I get you?

” What she enjoyed more than anything was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Both Roger and Edna Fern were only children so their large family meant everything to them and her happiest times were when she had family around her, sharing a meal or a cup of coffee and a cookie. Left to cherish her memory are her children; sons Val (Joan) Wiese of Holstein, IA, Merritt (Beth) Wiese of Elkhorn, NE; daughters Rozann (Dave) Seela of New Market, IA, Mary Ellen (Jay) Sunderman of New Market, IA and daughter-in-law Nancy Wiese of Tulsa, OK.

Eleven grandchildren: Wendi (Layne) Johnson, Tulsa, OK, Lance (Tracy) Wiese, Gering, NE, Ryan (Julie) Wiese of Holstein, IA, Erin (Mike) Van Cleave, Firth, NE, Lee Seela, Overland Park, KS, Stacy (Tony) Nurnberg, Independence, MO, Michael (Kaleigh) Wiese, Austin, TX, Fletcher Sunderman, St. Joseph, MO, Jesse Wiese, Elkhorn, NE and Olivia Wiese, Elkhorn, NE. 19 great-grandchildren: Jake and Luke Johnson; Madeline, Dalton, Elizabeth and Sarah Wiese; Megan, Renae and Travis Wiese; Gable, Dane, Elise and Petra Van Cleave; Piper and Trinity Seela; Wyatt, Caleb, Fiona and Cole Whipps. She is preceded in death and greeted at the gates of heaven for a joyous homecoming by her husband of 62 years, Roger Wiese (2006), son Les Wiese (2009), grandson Travis Wiese (1988), her parents Henry and Anna Endrulat and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Alvina Wiese.

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and the caring staff at the Good Samaritan Society, a place she called home for almost 6 years. Heaven just received a precious angel.
