Obituary for Edna Hattie Alvina Guldenstein Edna Hattie Alvina (Kaufman) Guldenstein, age 96, went peacefully home to God her Father on April 16, 2018 at her home in St. Clair Township, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Peters, (now known as Casco township), on March 16, 1922 to Andrew and Mabel (Fahs) Kaufman, Edna was the second of four siblings with whom she worked on the family farm while receiving her 8th grade education at the one-room, Peters School; later working proudly at Marine City Gasket during the war. At St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Peters, she met, then married, the love of her life, Carl, on November 12, 1947, joining him on his family farm a few miles away.
Honeymooning in Sarasota, FL, brought a love of sea shell collecting and beachcombing, and in later years they would further enjoy a month each winter on Sanibel Island, FL, making many lifelong friends and memories, including introducing their grandchildren to this sanctuary island. Never one to shy away from hard work, Edna enjoyed farm life for 93 years, including various farm chores, gardening, preserving, canning, baking, sewing, with often a daily walk to the woods as weather permitted. A faith-filled, lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran, Edna taught Sunday School/Catechism classes for over 40 years, was both a student and a teacher of countless Bible studies; active in Girl’s Nite Out, Women of the ELCA, serving her church and her community.
Palms Elementary School Mother’s Club and its library kept her busy while her daughters attended there. Her grandchildren grew up next door, and the path was always open, as many games and activities were happily shared. Whether playing hymns on the piano, or singing in the choir, Edna’s love for music was a constant.
An avid reader, she always had her Bible, books, and magazines close by. Her unfailing love of God and family guided her through each day. Honoring Edna and remembering her love are Edna’s two daughters; Faye Burt (Dick Allington) and Cheryl (Steve) Chorazewitz; two grandchildren; Julie (Lance) Danielson and Jay Burt (Caisa Sanburg); great-grandson, Connor Danielson.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 45 years, Carl, sisters Ruth Kane, Irene Wahl, brother Norman Kaufman; brothers-in-law Daniel Kane, Gilbert Wahl, and, she is survived by sister-in-law Dorothy Kaufman.
