Edward “Ed” Gus Heinze, 71, of South Haven, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at his home. He was born October 17, 1947 to Edward and Ruth E. (Till) Heinze in South Haven. Ed was a 1966 graduate of South Haven High School.

Ed married Dorothy Brinks on September 20, 1969 at First English Lutheran Church in South Haven. He owned along with his father and grandfather, Heinze Farms where he enjoyed working his entire life. Ed was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven.

He enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, bowling, snowmobiling and Nascar races. His favorite places were Sault Sainte Marie, where he liked watching the locks, and trips to Disney with his family. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Michael and Joseph Heinze Ed is survived by his wife – Dorothy Heinze. Daughter – Shawn Heinze of South Haven. Sons – Vincent (Tracy) Heinze of South Haven and Jason Heinze of Grand Rapids.

Grandsons – Logan, Reed and Caleb Heinze. Sister – Rita (David) Butler of South Haven. Visitation will be held Monday, December 10, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, December 11, at 11:00 AM at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven with Pastor Travis Wilson officiating. Ed will be laid to rest at Monks Cemetery in Geneva Township. In lieu of flowers friends wishing to make a memorial contribution could do so to Peace Lutheran Church or Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
