Edward L. Beck, Middletown, PA, went into the loving arms of his heavenly Father on April 28, 2019 after a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1927 to Fred and Clara Beck and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene; his son, Edward E. Beck (wife, Linda), Harrisburg; grandson, Alex Beck, Harrisburg; sister, Ann Turns, Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Frances Mathias.

Ed, a 1944 graduate of Middletown Area High School, attended Dickinson College after his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa where he earned the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory medal. He had a good sense of humor and liked to boast that, out of fear, Japan surrendered the day after he graduated from Basic Training.

He worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He served on the Lower Swatara Township Sewer Authority and was a member of the Prince Edwin Spring Creek Masonic Lodge, Liberty Fire Company, as well as Lower Swatara Lions Club. Ed also volunteered for many years with the Middletown Care-a-van.

In addition to his civic involvement, Ed coached Little League baseball and served as a Cub Scout leader. He was a loving husband and a proud father. In his later years, he lit up when he was around his one and only grandchild.

Ed was also a lifelong fan of the Middletown Blue Raiders, Penn State football and the Philadelphia Phillies. He was a member of New Beginnings Church, Middletown, where services will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 11 a.m. Visitation will occur beginning at 10 a.m. He will be interred at the Middletown Cemetery on Monday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund at New Beginnings Church, 630 South Union Street, Middletown, PA 17057 The family has entrusted the Matinchek Funeral Home, 260 East Main St. Middletown with the funeral arrangements.
