Edward W. Bierhalter, 91, of South Haven, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 at his home. He was born January 23, 1928 to Edward J. and Marie (Babor) Bierhalter in South Haven. Ed graduated with the South Haven Class of 1946.

Ed honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Philippine Sea during World War II. During his service, Ed traveled to the South Pole with Admiral Byrd. He married Dorothy Peterson on February 13, 1954 by the Justice of the Peace in South Haven with their reception held in Kibbie.

They shared 63 years in marriage before her passing in 2017. Ed later became of a police officer for the South Haven Police Department for 12 years. He then became a fire fighter for the South Haven Fire Department for 22 years before his retirement in 1989.

Ed enjoyed bowling, golfing, baseball, and spending time with all of his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his children – Kathy (Norm) Hodges of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kevin (Laurie) Bierhalter of South Haven and Keith Bierhalter of South Haven, grandchildren – Aaron (Pam) Hodges, Amber (Brian) Beisly, Morgan Bierhalter, Hayley Bierhalter, Reece (Stephanie) Bierhalter, and Kelsi Bierhalter, and great grandchildren – Jordan, Dylan, Ellie, Reagan, Carly, and Delaney. A graveside service with veteran’s honors will be held Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Rev.
