Edwin F. Leibold Hoekstra, “Slim”, 46, Makah tribal member and longtime resident of Neah Bay Washington, succumbed to cancer in the comfort of his own home with his wife at his side on August 27th 2018. Slim was born November 22, 1971 in Forks Washington to Andrew Peter Hoekstra and Doris Rae Johnson Hoekstra. Slim’s main occupation over the years was a Makah Treaty fisherman, he enjoyed long-lining, trolling, gill-netting, even river set net and mid-water trawl.
Other occupations he tried over the years included cutting shake bolts, tow truck driver, a farm hand, a heavy machine operator and mechanic, as well as a logger to make a living. But his heart was a Makah Fisherman on the fishing vessal S/V North! Slim was a devoted husband and father, who had a deep respect for his elders, he enjoyed building children up with enthusiastic encouragement.
Edwin was married to Blanche Renee Jackson and together they had Jerry and Stephen Jackson. Edwin then married the love of his life Christina Lenee Pendleton on 7/4/2010, he took her sons Kyle, Brendon and Nick as his own, and they soon had Zachariah Edwin Hoekstra. Slim is survived by his wife, Christina Hoekstra, his sons Jerry Jackson and Steven Jackson of La Push.

His mother-in-law LuAnne Martin and Steve Pendleton of Neah Bay, and his father-in-law, Russ and Kathy Vogel of Neah Bay. His sisters, Verlie and Abel Flores of Forks, Vienna and Marty Penn of La Push, Anna Cisneros of Forks, and Nancy Hoekstra of California.
His Brothers Robert Hoekstra of Port Angeles and Adam Hoekstra of Neah Bay, his grandchildren Walter and Noah Jackson of Hoquiam, Jackson Drummond of Tacoma and Jaden wheeler of Neah Bay. Slim is preceded in death by his father, Andrew Peter Hoekstra, and his mother, Doris Rae Johnson Hoekstra, his daughter, Shelby Rae Hoekstra, and his sons Baby Boy Hoekstra and Baby Benjamin Hoekstra. Services will be held at the Makah Community Gym on September 3, 2018.
A private family viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will start at 1 p.m. at the Makah Community Gym and be followed by a Graveside Service at the Neah Bay Cemetery. Services will conclude with a reception dinner at the Makah Community Gym. Arrangements for services have been entrusted to Harper-Ridgeview of Port Angeles.
