Edyth Malin of Audubon, PA (formerly of Strafford), died on Tuesday, October 23 at her home. She was 92. She was born to Joseph and Marie Lasky on May 21, 1926 in Fitchburg, MA.

The family moved to Nashville, TN when Edyth was a young girl. She attended Vanderbilt University where she met her husband, the late Morton V. Malin. She graduated with a degree in chemistry.

Edyth and Mort married in 1947 and had 3 children. Later, she earned a Master’s degree at Temple University and a PhD at Bryn Mawr College. She worked as a Lead Research Scientist for the US Department of Agriculture, Eastern Regional Research Center in Wyndmoor, PA.

Her work there included methods of assaying proteins in food, as well as a ground-breaking method for reducing fat content in cheese. She was a long-time member and volunteer with the Association for Women In Science (AWIS). Her interests included classical music, art, literature, and politics.

She was also active in the Main Line Unitarian Church. She will be greatly missed by her children: Joseph, Edward (Kathleen), and William (Sharon) and her grandchildren: Rocky and Alex. A memorial service will be held at Volpe Funeral Home (www.

volpefh.com) on October 30, 2018 at 11:30 am. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to AWIS at www.
