Obituary of Eileen Egan Eileen T. Egan (nee Brophy), 93, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born on July 28, 1924 in West Paterson where she was raised by her parents Vincent and Marguerite (Fanning) Brophy, who were early settlers of the town. Eileen attended St. Bonaventure Church Grammar School and High School and then remained a lifelong parishioner where she helped to establish the Social Concerns Committee.

For her contributions to the ideals of St. Francis of Assisi, Eileen was awarded the St. Francis Medal in October 2008. Eileen attended Sherwood Business School and William Paterson College. Before retiring, Eileen worked for the County of Passaic for 25 years in the Mosquito Commission and later in the Department of Aging.

She was also a member of the Mother’s Club, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Woodland Park Democratic Club, a member of the Passaic County Board of Senior Services and she served on the Woodland Park Board of Health. She was the beloved wife of the late James J. Egan for 60 years before his passing in 2008. She was the adored mother of Kathleen DiPaola and her husband Giacomo, Marianne Egan, Vincent Egan and his wife Susan and Deirdre Sinski and her husband Michael Cottrell.

She was the cherished grandmother of Vincent John and Julianne Egan and Jacqueline Sinski. Eileen was the dear sister of Timothy Brophy and his wife Marie and was predeceased by her brother Vincent and his late wife Mary and her sister Beatrice Brophy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Monday from 3-8pm at Santangelo Funeral Home, 635 McBride Avenue, Woodland Park, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday at 10:15 am at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey Street, Paterson. Cremation will be private by the request of the family.
