OBITUARY Eleanor June Adams June 16, 1930 – August 23, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Eleanor June (Bachmaier) Judge Adams, “Ellie”, “El”, “Mom”, passed into Jesus’ presence on August 23, 2018. Eleanor was born in Astoria in Woodside, New York. She was the only child of Sophie and Joseph Bachmaier.

She had a beautiful singing voice, singing publicly, while her mother accompanied her on the piano. Eleanor earned a BA from Our Lady of Good Counsel, now Pace University, but heard another calling. Eleanor was a dedicated nurse for over 40 years, retiring in 2009.

Eleanor earned her RN from Nassau Community College in 1963, and her BSN in 1973 from Stony Brook University. Eleanor worked in the VA System over 28 years in such places as, Northport New York and the 3 VA’s here in Arizona. Her nursing took her to some fascinating places also, such as, Saudi Arabia, Sitka Alaska, and San Diego.

She finished her nursing career, working for Hospice of the Valley for 10 years. Eleanor was a tenacious nurse who didn’t take “No! ” from patients who did not follow doctor’s orders, yet she was kind and compassionate to all who were in her care.

She loved to mentor new nurses, passing on her wisdom, insights and love for the profession. Eleanor never gave up…or into adversity; rather seeing them as challenges and learning experiences. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie and Joseph Bachmaier; and her cousin, Toni, who was a “sister” to her.

Eleanor leaves her legacy, her daughters, Maryellen (Michael) Hodapp, Mary Elizabeth Young, and Eileen (Grant) Meneley; grandchildren, Tara (Tim) Tang, James “Jim” Hodapp, and Brian (Maria) Hodapp; and great-grandchildren, Annie, Joshua, Norah, and Lia. We cannot thank the staff of Orchard-Pointe Surprise Memory Support, or Hospice of the Valley enough, for their love and care for our mother.
