OBITUARY Eleanor Mary Ceyte June 3, 1918 – September 12, 2018 Eleanor Mary Ceyte went to be with the Lord on September 12, 2018. She had the good fortune to have lived for 100 years on this earth. Eleanor Mary is survived by her son Jim and his wife Susie.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dan and Mattie Locklear Newbern. Eleanor Mary is the oldest of 6 brothers and sisters, all of whom have gone before her: Mildred Newbern Burnette, Collis Daniel Newbern, James Edmond Newbern, Delmas Newbern and Etta Mae Newbern Hamilton. Eleanor Mary is also predeceased by her husband Rene Ceyte, her daughter Jeanette Carol Ceyte Patterson, and her son John Daniel Ceyte.

Eleanor Mary was born in Sparks, Georgia and grew up on the family farm. She was married to Rene Ceyte in Macon, Georgia in 1943. She traveled wherever Rene was stationed during WWII.

After Rene was discharged they settled in Birmingham, Alabama where Rene resumed his job as a photo engraver for the Birmingham News for the next 37 years. They raised 3 children. Rene passed away in May 1971.

Eleanor Mary held several jobs in her long working career. She was one of the “Rosie’s Riveters” during WWII. She worked in an airplane factory in Birmingham, Alabama when Rene was overseas.

Mary’s greatest gift was being a caregiver later in life and she did this for approximately 30 years, working until she was 94. She worked round the clock at her patients homes and she made many friends for life caring for her patients who became friends for life. She provided care for her own daughter who had a 4 year bout with cancer before passing away in December 1989.

A special thanks goes out the staff of Alacare Hospice for the past 8 months. They were always cheerful & upbeat with every visit. We also appreciate the care she received at UAB Kirkland Clinic.

Her primary care Physician was Patricia Garver, Kenneth Saag Rheumatologist, Ginnie Prater, Geriatric Medicine, and Blair Gibson, Audiologist Funeral Arrangements are 11:00 AM Visitation and Funeral Service at Noon, Saturday September 15, 2018 at Valley Chapel, Ridouts Funeral Home located at 1800 Oxmoor Road in Homewood Alabama 35209. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery following the service.
