Eleanor Mary McDevitt Eleanor was born on December 4, 1921, to Alexander Thomas Graham and Margaret Grady Graham, in Philadelphia Pa. She was the oldest with her sister Margaret Graham Williams deceased and Alex Graham deceased. The family belonged to St. John the Baptist Church in Manayunk.
Eleanor graduated from St. John’s School. Eleanor married Charles Patrick McDevitt and together they had Eileen Terese McDevitt Campbell, Charles Patrick McDevitt, Margaret (Peggy) McDevitt Hannigan and Kevin Thomas McDevitt. In 1954 they moved the family out of the city and settled in East Norriton Township.
Eleanor worked for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 40 years first serving at St Helena’s in Center Square, St Patrick’s in Norristown and retiring from Visitation BVM in Trooper. Eleanor worked for the Signal Core during the war as well as Sears on the Blvd. One of her many accomplishments was being instrumental in starting the Montgomery County Horse Show.
and the ability for it to be included as counting towards qualifying for the competition at Madison Square Garden. With the support of many prominent people from the area this event became a premier attraction. Eleanor had a great gift in her ability to organize events, she loved life to the fullest, she was the life of any party.
Eleanor is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandchildren: Terese Campbell Brittingham, Michelle Campbell Wilson, and Allison Campbell Carbone, Sheila Hannigan Williams, Megan Hannigan Swenson,Kathleen Hannigan Bembenek, Jamie McDevitt Wilmanski, Denise McDevitt Stuetz, Kevin McDevitt, Heidi Muddiman, Heather McDevitt, Holly McDevitt Rollin, Andrew McDevitt and Samantha McDevitt. Great Grandchildren: Daniel Brittingham, Alexandria Brittingham, Brette Campbell, Noel O’Neil, David O’Neil, Anthony O’Neil, Liam McDevitt, Keen McDevitt, Sean Oplinger, Joey Oplinger, Abigale Oplinger, Nicholas Oplinger, Phillip Muddiman, Trey Muddiman, Peyton Wilmanski, Tyler Wilmanski, Emma Stuetz, Gabriel Stuetz, Ava Stuetz, Aidan Williams, Abigail Williams, Charles Williams, Ella Swenson, Nate Swenson, Lyla Swenson, Grant Hannigan, Jack Hannigan, Avery Bembenek, Sloane Bembenek, Heather Rollin and Megan Rollin.
Eleanor was a member of the LOHA of Bridgeport, Visitation Ladies Auxiliary and Visitation Seniors. She loved social gathers with her friends and family. You could always find pickles in the refrigerator.
Relatives and friends are invited on Tuesday May 14 from 9AM to 1030AM at the Visitation BVM Church. Funeral mass will follow at 1030AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visitation church.
