Obituary for Elizabeth Ames Mierke Elizabeth Ames Mierke (55) of Shaker Heights, Ohio, died on 11 July, 2018 at Hospice of the Western Reserve after a year’s struggle with cancer. Elizabeth (“Liz” and “Lizzy”), daughter of Lorna Mary Hall Mierke and Harvey Oliver Mierke, Jr., was born on 23 April, 1963 in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Shaker Heights schools and graduated high school from Purnell School (Pottersville, NJ).

A life focused on family and friends, Liz enjoyed baking, painting, reading, old movies, sharing stories, and spending summers at the family cabin along the northern shore of Georgian Bay. Her seasonal cookies and cheese cakes brought a smile to all who knew her. A long-time friend of Bill W., she gained strength and courage from her extended community.

Liz is survived by her parents (listed above), her sisters Kathryn L. Mierke (David Davis) and Sara L. Mierke (Matthew C. Young), her nephew Oliver C. Young and nieces Cloe J. Young and Sally Madiba. The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in her name to The Church of the Covenant (Attn: Elizabeth A. Mierke Fund), 11205 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44106; PLAN of Northeast Ohio (c/o JFSA of Cleveland), 5010 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst, Ohio 44124; or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44110. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, 20 July, 2018 at 3:00pm at The Church of the Covenant, with a reception following.
