Elizabeth “Betty” J. Washburn, age 97, of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of Morral, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky. Betty was born on September 30, 1921 in Delaware County, Ohio to William Hughes and Myrtle (Fultz) Hughes. She married Clarence Washburn on September 5, 1943 in the Morral Methodist Church by Rev.

Fred Rice. Clarence proceeded her in death on July 22, 2005. She is survived by a son, Steve (Vicki) Washburn, of Harpster, daughter-in-laws Cathy Washburn of Columbus and Nancy Washburn of Bellevue.

8 grandchildren, Scott (Darcy) Washburn, Rick (Deb) Washburn, Philip (Liz) Washburn, Erica (Brad) Bickhart, Stefanie (Matt) Bowling, Amy (Justin) Walters, Alyssa (Pete) Droll and Krista (Tyler) Schindley along with 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a special niece, Sherry Borland, and several other nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Washburn and Roger Washburn, a grandson, Cory Washburn, a brother Merald Hughes, and 3 sisters, Grace Pace-Minor, Marilyn Fremont, and Edythe Campbell.

She graduated as class salutatorian of Morral High School in 1939 and went on to graduate from the Marion Business College. She then went to work at the Marion County Relief Office until her marriage to Clarence. She later served as the clerk for 10 years at the Morral Post Office retiring in 1983.

Betty was a lifelong member of Morral United Methodist Church where she served as the church organist and treasurer for many years. She also was a 50 year member of the former Pythian Sisters of Morral. For hobbies she enjoyed traveling with her husband Clarence, crocheting, knitting, mowing her yard and spending time with her family.

Funeral services for Betty Washburn will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with Rev. Becky King and Philip Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery.

Visitations will be held on Monday, December 17, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, or the Fairhaven Community Activities Fund, or` Fairhaven Community Chapel Fund. Memorials can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave.
