Elizabeth Carol Lorenz-Gajda, age 74, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 in Tampa, Fla. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 7, 1944, and will be remembered for her sharp intelligence, her deep love of reading, her skill at crafts, and her mentorship and support of those who needed someone to believe in them. Carol fought fiercely for the things she believed in, particularly issues of equality and human dignity.

She was a dog-breeder and systems analyst who managed to travel the… world. While living overseas in Prague, Czech Republic, she visited most of Europe as well as Russia and Egypt, collecting beautiful arts and crafts during her travels. Her grandchildren loved her stories of visiting landmarks and significant places throughout the United States and the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lydia (Betty) Gares. She is survived by her husband, Victor Gajda, whom she married on Mackinac Island, Michigan on October 19, 1991. Also left to honor and remember her are her children, John Lorenz (Lisa Holewa) and Cheryl Kirby (David); her honorary daughter, Sharon Fantene (Ron); as well as her grandchildren, Maya, Jack, Lucille and Danielle; and the step-grandchildren and honorary grandchildren she loved so deeply.

A memorial service will be held in Michigan at a later date.
