Elizabeth’s Obituary Elizabeth Chalsma de Stwolinska (nee Kiser) died on January 29th, 2019 in Clermont, FL. Chal, as she was affectionately known, was born on May 31st, 1927 in Walterboro, SC to Douglas and Bannah Kiser (Thornley). She was predeceased by her husband, Adelbert “de” de Stwolinska and her sister, Gloria Jennings.
Chal will be lovingly remembered by her son, Douglas and his wife Nicola, of Winter Garden, FL, her daughter Carol Coen of Live Oak Florida, grandchildren, Cheri Sparks, Michael Sparks (Angie), Bobby Sparks and Tina Lane as well as many other relatives and friends. Chal lived in Adams Run, just outside of Charleston, SC, until her early 20’s when she met her husband, De, while he was stationed at the U.S. Navy Communication Station in Dupont, South Carolina. They married in 1949 and had two children – Carol and Douglas.
During their marriage, they lived in many parts of the world due to his career in the Navy and later the Navy Resale System (Navy Exchange). Charleston, Island of Guam, Washington D.C., Germany, Panama, Island of Bermuda, and Pensacola, FL. Carol was with them during all these travels up to Bermuda.
Douglas was born during their second stint in Washington D.C. just before De retired from the Navy. After he retired from the Navy, they moved back to Charleston, SC during which time De worked for Sears and then joined the Naval Resale System for 17 years. They moved to Bermuda in 1969 to work on the Naval Base there and lived on the island for 10 years before retiring to Pensacola, FL.
Chal had very fond memories of her time in the Navy and all the places they lived. Her favorite place was Germany followed by Bermuda. After De died, Chal moved to central Florida to be close to her son, Douglas, and his wife Nicola.
She lived at Benton House in Clermont for the last few years of her life and became very friendly with many of the staff there. She would keep sweet treats in her room for them and they became like her second family. Chal was a homemaker and she took great pride in taking care of her family and making sure they had everything they needed.
She loved reading, particularly biographies and murder mysteries, and dogs, especially Lhasa Apso’s and Shih Tzu’s. She also enjoyed shopping, dining out and getting her hair done. Even in the later stages of her life, she took pride in her appearance and liked to look her best.
The funeral service will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery (Shelter B) in Pensacola, FL on Monday, March 25th at 12:30pm. A funeral cortege will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd. , Pensacola FL 32504 at 12:00pm.
She will be laid to rest there with her husband.
