Obituary for Elizabeth Joy Smith (Worley) Elizabeth “Joy” Smith, 88, of O’Fallon, MO, formerly of Des Arc, MO, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018. She was born in Annapolis, MO, on April 18, 1930 to the late Roy and Opal (Pond) Worley. Joy married Avery L. Smith on February 25, 1952, and they were blessed with two children.
She was a devoted wife and mother. Joy was a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years, was a life member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, and a member of First Baptist Church in Lake Saint Louis. Joy worked as a teacher in the Normandy School District and retired after 30 years of teaching.
She taught at Des Arc school before moving to the St. Louis area. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener. Most of all, Joy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, William “Bill” Worley. Joy is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, her children, Jeff Smith and wife, Donna, of Chesterfield, MO; Beth Imel and husband, Charles, of O’Fallon, MO; her grandchildren: Alissa Imel, Josh and Michael Smith; her nieces, Barb McDowell and Sandra Scully; and her nephew, Stephen Worley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm, at Ruegg Funeral Home Chapel in Piedmont, MO. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm, also at the chapel. Burial will be at Carson Hill Cemetery, Mill Spring, MO.
