Obituary for Eloise Ann Youker Hancock Eloise Ann (Loveland) Youker Hancock TRAVERSE CITY – Eloise Ann (Loveland) Youker Hancock, 87, a lifetime resident of Traverse City, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on December 26, 2018 at Culver Meadows in Traverse City. Eloise was born October 28, 1931, in Traverse City, to Clarence “Bill” and Marion Loveland. She was a 1949 graduate of Traverse City Central High School, where she was voted Homecoming Queen.
In her early years she worked for Michigan Bell, and as a physical therapist. Shortly after high school, she married William Youker, who would pass away prematurely of cancer in 1973. Eloise had two sons with Bill Youker; Tom and Steve.
Later, she found love again and married John Hancock, who would pass away in 1996. In her later years after raising her family, Eloise would volunteer at Traverse City’s visitor center, where she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of her beloved Traverse City with her town’s many visitors. Eloise’s greatest joys were the love of her family and friends, Traverse City (and the surrounding areas), and music.
She adored spending time with her family and friends, and would do anything she could to help people. She was very thoughtful and generous. Eloise briefly moved out of state, but could not wait to get back to her “home”, Traverse.
Eloise absolutely loved music, from Big Band, to Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, and even Rock n’ Roll. She was taught piano at a young age by her Aunt Flora, which she would continue to play the rest of her life, until sadly, her hands failed her. Attending concerts at Interlochen were the high-water marks of the summer season.
Eloise will be remembered for her zest for life, which she shared with many. Even in her absence, she would want everyone to simply “Carry on! ” Eloise is survived by her sons Tom (Kathey) Youker, Steve (Mary) Youker, her sister Loreen (Skeets) Bramer, her brother William Loveland, her grandson Daniel Youker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Loveland, and her husbands. A memorial service for Eloise will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Tim Manzer will officiate.
A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to New Hope Community Church, 5169 Bethesda Ct, Williamsburg, MI 49690. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the caregivers at Culver Meadows and the hospice nurses at Heartland Hospice for their wonderful and comforting care given to Eloise.
