Nine great grandchildren, Samantha Mabie , Clifton Park, NY, Rebekah , Hannah, Marah, Elisha, Elijah, and Jonah Reuter of Canandaigua, NY, Landon and Natalia Franklin of Hobe Sound, FL. She was anticipating of the coming of a great great grandchild Samantha will have in the spring.

Elsie loved her children, grandchildren and great grands. Her life was all about caring and family. She was always interested in what each was doing, and hearing all their news.

Friday night dinners were a staple at her house for many years, with a table laden with good, home cooking. She never wanted you to go away from her table hungry, that was for sure. Elsie was previously employed in the glove shops in Gloversville, NY.

She left a glove right under the needle , half finished, when Bob stopped by the factory and said “Let’s go get Married”! They eloped on April 7, 1952, and that was the beginning of their marriage and family. After buying the house in Scotia, Elsie work at the Big N on Maxon Rd.

in Schenectady, NY. Her part time work enabled her to be home with her children before and after school, and on weekends. It was easy for her to keep up with what her girls were doing at school because their friends parents were only too willing to spill the beans as she waited on them at the deli!

Elsie was always sacrificial, going with out to enable her family to have what they needed. She was good at making things stretch, to enable ends to meet until the next payday. Elsie worked outside the home part time until her husband Bob became disabled.

Afterwards she stayed at home with him, caring for him and keeping him company, while also caring for children in their home to help financially. This she did for many years, continuing after Bob passed on in August 1984. Eventually, she was able to retire from paid work, but not from the work of caring for her family.

Elsie had a green thumb, and was interested in growing flowers and tending to her house plants. She would gift her daughters with healthy, lush house plants, and then revive them when her daughters brought them back near death! She received many bedding flowers as Mothers’ Day and birthday presents.

She happily planted them outside, tending them religously with water and fertilizer, and enjoying them from her front window as she worked in the kitchen, or relaxing in the shade of her garage overhang. Elsie deeply loved each of her children, grand children, and great grand children, and they loved her in return. She will remain in each ones heart and memories, always cherished for her kind and loving ways.

She clearly was an exceptional mother, and her family was blessed to have her for so many years. Rest well, Mom and enjoy laying beside Dad for the first time in 34 years. We’ll do our best to make you proud of us!
