Elsie C. Ayres 11/19/21 – 10/4/18 Our beloved Mother was part of The Greatest Generation. She grew up during the Depression, worked making nylon parachutes during World War II, and with our Dad, Harry Ayres, owned and operated the Millsboro Tastee Freez. They raised their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

Mom recalled riding on the floor of a buggy, pulled by a mule, and marveled as rockets carried people into space. Our mother could raise any infant animal, be it a featherless baby bird or a hairless, almost frozen baby squirrel. She was an ardent lover of nature and all living creatures.

Flies could be swatted but spiders had to be captured and released outdoors. She is survived by two daughters, Jacquelyn M. Ayres and Adrienne E. Ayres, her son-in-law, Richard Anthony, and a number of nieces and nephews. She is also remembered lovingly by Mason Huffman and members of the Cheerful Notes Glee Club at the Cheer Center.

Services will be held at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Monday, October 15, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Millsboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please enjoy a sunset, appreciate the clouds, help an animal, or hug someone you love.
