OBITUARY Elvin Eugene Layne Passed away on January 17, 2019 Elder Elvin Eugene Layne entered in to rest on January 17,2019. Elvin was born October 17, 1929 in Wheeler, Arkansas. The family moved to Oakdale, California when he was 7 years old and started a small dairy on Kemper Rd.

Elvin graduated from Oakdale High School in 1948, where in participated in Football and Drama. He met the “love of his Life”- Lou Kathryn, at a church meeting in Lindsay, California. He was 14 years old.

Elvin married Lou Kathryn Hamby on June 12, 1948 in Salida, California. They spent 70 wonderful years together. They had four children – Danny (Marlys) of Turlock , Alan (Lynne) of Clovis, Kathy Thurman of Hughson, and David (Shelley) of Tracy.

10 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren. He also has 2 brothers – Larry (Elise) of Sanger & Gary (Olga) of Modesto, and sister-in-law Velma(John)Mincy of Colorado. Elvin was preceded in death by his wife Lou Kathryn, parents D.A. & Mildred Layne, Lou’s parents Marvin & Alice Hamby, Sister Yvonne Lee, Sister-in-law Marie Plumlee (Issac), and his Great Grandson Layne Johnson.

Elvin was the Minister of the Primitive Baptist Church for 54 years. The churches were: Santa Clara, Golden Gate (Fremont), Madera and Hughson. He was ordained at Harmony Primitive Baptist Church in Hughson, California on April 19, 1964.

He was a member of Harmony Church in Hughson Constitution. After retirement, Elvin & Lou enjoyed traveling all over the US. They went to many church meetings in many states.

So many great memories. He was manager of RC Cola in Modesto & Stockton for 20 years. Then he was the custodial supervisor at Modesto Junior College for 20 years.
