A Mass of Christian Burial for Emilie E. (Cox) (Ruth) Young, 85 of Oxford, will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove with Father Robert Cloos officiating. A meal will be held at Waldschmidt Hall following mass and burial will take place at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery in Riverside following the meal. Visitation will be held Monday, September 17, from 4 – 8 PM at Waldschmidt Hall in Cosgrove where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM.

A general memorial fund has been established. Emilie E. Young died Thursday, September 13, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Emilie E. Cox was born December 2, 1932 in Holbrook, Iowa, the daughter of James Davis and Catherine Bernadette (Barry) Cox.

She graduated from The Villa School in Davenport. On October 27, 1951 she was united in marriage to Richard F. Ruth at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. Richard died in 1988.

Emilie married Ralph Young on September 30, 1995 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove. Emilie worked as a lab assistant and in physical therapy at the University of Iowa, retiring after 24 years of service. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Cosgrove, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and the Order of Catholic Foresters, she was also a member of the Oxford Legion Auxiliary #537, Red Hat Society, card club and the Irish Mafia Sisters.

Emilie was a self taught seamstress, upholsterer and homemaker and was devoted to her role as wife, mother and grandmother. Emilie enjoyed life and her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Survivors include eight children: Darlene Barney of Iowa City, Pat (Donna) Ruth of Iowa City, Judy (Rob) Dailing of Oxford, Gerri (Joe) Turecek of Iowa City, Bill (Karen) Ruth of West Amana, Colleen Rempe of Ft.

Madison, Mary (Rick) Wells of Oxford, Joe (Tammie) Ruth of Chariton, daughter-in-law Elaine Ruth of Tipton, 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Preceding Emilie in death were her parents, her husband Richard, her husband Ralph Young in 2010, her son Dick Ruth in 2005, son-in-law Richard Rempe in 2010, a great granddaughter Alyssa Clayton, a great grandson Jaxsen Varland, and eight siblings: Richard Cox, Joseph Cox, Margaret Schott, Maureen Hamilton, Mary Vest, Dorothy Schultz, Joanne Neuzil, Colleen Keith and step brothers Pierre and Clark Aldershof. Please honor Emilie by enjoying a strawberry margarita, a bowl of your favorite ice cream or some extra lap time with your grandchild.
