Emma Lou Mayer was born to Oliver and Nora (Johnson) Stauffer on January 14, 1933 in Bern, Kansas. She grew up in the Bern area and graduated from Bern High School. She was united in marriage to Robert “Chub” Mayer in 1956.

To this union two sons were born, Dale and Ron. Emma Lou worked for Dr. Heim and Dr. Stappenbeck Physician’s Clinic until moving to the Humboldt Community Hospital where she worked for many years in the insurance department. She then worked with the American Quarter Horse Association throughout Nebraska.

Emma Lou dearly loved gardening, flowers and horses. She was a long-time member of the Stella Saddle Club, American Quarter Horse Association and Humboldt American Legion Auxiliary. She passed away at her home on May 20, 2018 at the age of 85 years.

Emma Lou is survived by her son Ron Mayer and wife Tammy of Lincoln, MO, 2 grandchildren, Ryan Mayer and Christiana Kinnett both of Lincoln, 3 great-grandchildren, sisters, Pearl Mayer of Humboldt, Pat Badberg of Humboldt, and Irene Planner and husband Clarence of IA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert “Chub”, son, Dale Mayer, sister, Ruth Ann, and brothers, Stanley, Johnny, Robert, Bill and Henry Stauffer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska with Pastor Eric Biehl officiating.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt, Nebraska. Memorials may go to the family’s choice. Interment will be in the Humboldt Cemetery, Humboldt, Nebraska.
