After a long battle with Alzheimers, Joan slipped away in her sleep in the early hours of Monday January 21, 2019, in Prescott, Arizona. Joan was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica and graduated from Hampton Boarding School in Jamaica. She received a Bachelors Degree in English from McGill University in Toronto, Canada and was lovingly known as the family grammar policewoman.

Joan loved to read and enjoyed music from all genres. She was passionate about travel and has visited almost every continent. Erica “Joan” Fraser met Charles Philip Pflueger when he moved to Jamaica as Assistant Station Manager for Pan America Airlines in 1958.

They were married in Montego Bay, Jamaica in 1960. Charlie was the love of Joan’s life and she was featured in his book “Island Fever”. Her only child Paul Christian Pflueger was born in Poole, England where Joan’s brother Guillermo “Bill” Fraser was Chief of Surgery at Poole Hospital.

When Paul was 6 weeks old they returned to Jamaica. Joan worked for Pan American Airlines in Montego Bay, Jamaica for 25 years. She started her career as Traffic Manager then Reservations Manager for all of Jamaica.

In 1971 Joan, Charles and Paul traveled for five weeks around the world from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Hong Kong, Tokyo, Tahiti, Beirut, New Delhi and Hawaii, just to name a few. In 1973 they traveled to Auckland, Sydney and Jakarta. Other great trips included South Africa, South America, Canada and Europe.

They also loved to cruise the Caribbean and attend the Hospitality Travel Shows in London and New York. In 1976 Joan moved to Coral Gables, Florida and worked for the Jamaica Reservations Service, a division of the Jamaica Tourist Board. Upon retiring in 1993, Joan moved to Sylva, North Carolina to be closer to her son, Paul and to her grandchildren.

Joan had a sweet tooth and was known to feed the kids ice cream for breakfast… we think it was so she could have some too! In 2008 Joan moved to Prescott, Arizona when the family relocated. Our special thanks go to the medical teams at the Good Samaritan Village, Prescott and to Granite Gate Senior Living, Prescott for all the love and care you gave to Joan over the years.

Joan is survived by her devoted son and daughter-in-law Paul and Julie Pflueger, former husband Charles Pflueger, and granddaughters Kory and Erin Pflueger. A Celebration of her 91 years on earth will be held in the Spring. Rest now Mom…Heaven is ready for you.
